Pulling my hair out

Anyone know how to access a .vhd file? I am trying to restore my data to my Tabby but Windows Restore will not recognize my backup I made last night. I have been googling like crazy. I figured out vhd stands for virtual hard drive. I downloaded Virtual Server but I still cant get this file to mount as a drive to access the files. Mainly because I have no idea how to run Virtual Server. Anyone have any ideas?
