Colin Kelly from Celio Corp has posted on the WMExperts forum to check out the website at 11:00 am today for an announcement!!
I have no idea what it is.
I have a few guesses so lets see how my predictions go (in order of how likely I think they are):
1. Even lower price and/or extended the pricing program which ended yesterday.
2. BB support
3. iPhone support
Slide SlingPlayer support in between 1 and 2

Weekend fun with the Redfly
I don't know if any of you peruse my google calendar on the website, but I need to be in two places at once this week.
Went home this weekend to visit the parents, and left Tabby at home and only brought the Redfly. Worked out pretty good. The ONLY cable or charger cord I needed was the USB cable for the phone. At night I hooked my phone up to the Redfly and it charged. Really gets rid of the need for a laptop bag on a short trip like that. I also had my ipod in the car so I grabbed the USB cable for that and tried something on a hunch. You can plug the ipod into the Redfly and it will see it as Remote Storage on the Phone, and it will also charge it! I bet you could charge a BT headset off it as well but I haven't tried it yet.

What I am doing today
Constantly checking the Celio website to see if the Touch drivers will be released for the Redfly. They changed the website to "in beta testing". I suppose the more I ask for the Touch drivers the more chance they wont let me try them. Oh Well.
Oh yeah I am on vacation too. :)
LOL
We have been chilling out in the hotel today, waterpark and arcade. Going to TGIFridays to eat and then watching a movie in the room.

Quick Redfly tip
Got this from John Dietrich in a post in the Redfly blog.
The Redfly takes your wallpaper from your phone and simply copies it a few times (tiles it) to make it cover the redfly screen. So it creates "seams" and makes it look like the wood paneling at my parents house. John created a jpg with the proper filename so that when the Redfly is connected you get one nice wallpaper. It looks really sharp!
Here is the file if by a chance someone here is a redfly user.
BTW I brought my Redfly and Tabby only because I need Tabby to get on the crappy wrestling news sites. They are full of popups and extremely slow to load from a mobile browser.

More fun with the Redfly
I have been pushing this gadget to the limits this week.
I told you yesterday I got it hooked up to my pantech pn820 smartphone. I used the Treo 700wx cab file and drivers since they are both wm5. It worked very well considering. The letters on the screen were not as sharp but thats understandable. Since wm smartphone has no touchscreen support the use of the touchpad on the Redfly was a no go. Everything had to be done with the keyboard or the phone itself. Smartphones will have a back key or a clear key which the Redfly does not have so it would have been very hard to use if it had not been for using the phone as well. I also got my old i730 fired up with it and did just fine. I am currently using my old treo 700wx with absolutely no problems. I have a very beat up Q but right now Jaclynn is using it but I would guess it would work fine as well seeing as the pn820 did ok. To me I think Redfly support for smartphone OS would be more important because they have less function than a ppc due to lack of touchscreen and sometimes smaller screen. Then again this is aimed for the Enterprise group and maybe they don't use Smartphones as much, someone else would have to answer that for me.
Oh by the way I need a couple more people to befriend me on Facebook. I asked a few weeks ago and got some response but I need a couple more so I can vote for Tech Hotties.
Tomorrow I will have some pics for you of something I acquired and another small place in history I have achieved.

Feedburner? - Redfly GPS
I did my monthly check of Feedburner this morning and I see that my subscriber count has gone down......to ZERO. Very weird.
Anyways, I got a road trip to make this week so I will be using the Refly with GPS in a real life situation. I have it linked to my treo 700wx today for kicks and giggles. I have also linked it to my pantech pn820. It works but its rough. I'll explain later, I gotta get ready for work.

Ceilo CEO explains the Redfly
This is part 2 of a two-part video but I posted it because he answers the "Isn't this another Foleo?" question. He also speaks to the cost of the device. Keep in mind there has been no formal price announcement or release date. Also he talks about being able to quickly use this and then put it away. If you have 10 mins to kill, will it be worth it for you to spend 2-4 of those (depending on your setup) getting a laptop out and fired up and then shutting it down when you're done?

Explaining the Redfly
Matt Miller from ZDNet has a great video on YouTube about the Redfly. After watching it I realized that his device has some physical improvements over mine. He just got his and I have had mine for about a month. I don't think it would be fair to post a video of mine if its not the current beta (and I'm too busy this weekend).
The Redfly is a laptop that has no information on it. It has no memory, no processor, no OS. "Well why would I buy that?" Well maybe you wouldn't. Here's why I will and why I think many companies will:
1. Security - Laptops get stolen, get lost, get destroyed. The Redfly has no information on it so their is no risk of information loss. If you normally carry a ppc and a laptop, you have cut your security risk in half by switching to a Redfly.
2. Cost - I know that people have been throwing around 500.00 as the price for this. It might be, but nothing has been formally announced yet. Think about this though. What else will you need to buy for this device? Here's an example. When I bought Tabby, she only had a trial version of MS Office. I had to buy it. Crikes, I was miffed, I already spent 1900.00 on the thing. My i760 was a fraction of that and it had Office (Office Mobile). The Redfly uses what I already paid for. I will pass final judgment on price when I see for sure what it will be and what the final hardware looks like and what the device compatibility will be.
3. Simplicity - Dip-simple is a word I keep using when I describe this device. Anyone who uses this already knows how to run a ppc. Everything you do on the Redfly will be on your ppc. No syncing. It is instant-on and I can be on the internet way faster than it takes for me to wake up my laptop and tether to my i760.
I have thought about buying an Advantage or a Shift for a while now and even bought an Ipaq 210 recently and have owned a Nokia 770 tablet for a year.
I end up with another device I have to sync and maintain or in the case of one of the HTC devices, I pay another data fee (and we have crappy GSM service here).
Even before the Redfly came out I have been looking for something in between my laptop and my pda. I use Tabby for my many meetings and for making funeral arrangements with families. However I spend a lot of time on the phone. I am taking notes while I am on the phone, checking and making appointments, setting tasks, and responding to emails. When I do have a few minutes, I update my website and blog, surf a bit, and check my RSS feeds. I am in my car, outside, in a restaurant, in the bathroom (you know you do it too so don't even start), all over the place. The most important thing is that all the info I need has to be on my i760 because that is the device I always have with me. That is what the Redfly does. I think Celio is on the right track.

Can't you see I am trying to blog!
I gotta go buy mattresses for the kiddos today. I promise to get some pics and hopefully a video of the Redfly in action today or tomorrow.
OK the suspense is over
Well, three different websites have already ran stories on what I have been testing for the last few weeks and I got the go-ahead today....
I have been using the Celio Redfly.
I have been busy today so I havent had time to post pics for you I will link a few sites for you.
Kevin at jkontherun on the setup of the Redfly
James at jkontherun on his first impressions
Mobility Today
I can tell you that in the last few weeks the Redfly has become an indispensible part of my gadget arsenal.
This device is geared towards Enterprise users but for a mobile warrior like me it will save a lot of wear and tear on my laptop. I am in a lot of situations where wielding a 1900.00 tablet is not wise. To top it off the Redfly is absolutely dip-simple to use. I have never seen a BT pairing go so fast, I didn't realize it was over.
The one thing with me is that I always have my i760 with me. Never is it more than 3ft away from me 24 hours a day. I don't always have my laptop with me and I dont use WMDC so if I have a word doc on my laptop and I don't have it with me I am screwed. With the Redfly I can type a word doc and the file is on my device. That is the beauty of this. It uses your ppc's processor and memory and puts it on a bigger screen with a keyboard.
I will go on some more tomorrow about this device.
